Event Description

Join the Hummer Club for the Colorado Mountain Adventure 2026, an off-road event set against the stunning backdrop of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Based out of the Littleton / Denver area, this event takes participants on a series of high-altitude trails through some of the most scenic and rewarding terrain Colorado has to offer.

What began as a local event for Denver-area Hummer owners has grown over the years to attract participants from Texas, Wyoming, Nebraska, and other neighboring states. Many attendees return year after year, a testament to the incredible scenery and the camaraderie of the group.

Over the course of three days, participants will tackle a variety of trails ranging from moderate to challenging, with the final day typically featuring a shorter, more relaxed route to accommodate members beginning their drive home. Some trails may include optional scenic hikes. The event is organized to be accessible and enjoyable for a wide range of Hummer owners and experience levels, and intentionally avoids selecting "very difficult" or "extreme" rated trails for this event.

Daily Meeting Location

Drivers will meet each morning at 7:00 AM outside the
Dillard's store at Southwest Plaza shopping center in Littleton, Colorado. This is the staging point each day before departing to the trailhead. It is important that you arrive here fully fueled up, on time with all the supplies you need to avoid delaying the entire group.

Address: Southwest Plaza Shopping Center -- Outside Dillard's, Littleton, CO.

Trail Selection

The event organizer will pre-run trail candidates in the weeks leading up to the event. Options will be presented to the group at the first morning meeting, and the group will collectively decide on the trail for that day.

The following criteria guide trail selection for this event:

Variety: A mix of terrain types and difficulty levels across the three days

Sunday Trail: The final day's trail is intentionally selected to be shorter and easier to accommodate members who need to begin their drive home

Scenic Hikes: Some trails may include short optional hikes to nearby viewpoints or summits

Accessibility: The event avoids "very difficult" or "extreme" rated trails - this event is intended to be enjoyable for a wide range of builds and experience levels

Most trailheads are within 60 minutes from the official meeting point location; some may be up to 90 minutes away

RV Parks, Airbnbs, VRBOS, campgrounds, are perfectly acceptable as well. However, it is your responsibility to make sure you meet up with the rest of the Hummer Club members at the official meeting point before the event. If you live locally and do not need lodging at all, that works as well.

Things To Know About The Local Area / Trails

The Littleton / Denver Metro Area

This area offers a wide variety of lodging options at multiple price points. The area around the meeting location provides easy access to:

  • A wide range of hotels, motels, and extended stay options
  • Numerous restaurants and dining options for every evening
  • Fuel stations and EV charging locations
  • Retail shopping and grocery stores
  • Vehicle service centers and auto parts stores

It is worth noting that once you leave the Denver metro and head into the mountains, amenities become sparse quickly. Stock up on fuel, food, and anything else you may need before departing for the trails each morning. Do not count on finding anything you may need near the trailheads.

Getting to the Trails

The actual trails are located in the mountains west of Denver. Most trailheads are within 60 minutes of the meeting point; some may be up to 90 minutes away. Because of the drive to and from the trails each day, it is important that your Hummer is in good mechanical condition, with proper tire pressure, and fully capable of reliable on-road highway travel. Attendees should be prepared for mountain roads, winding highways, and areas of limited cell service. Some trails are accessed directly off a highway or local road, and it is not uncommon to travel back on pavement between trail sections during the day. Your vehicle needs to be as road-ready as it is trail-ready.

Altitude Awareness

Many of these trails reach altitudes above 11,000 feet. If you are traveling from a lower elevation, allow time to acclimate before the event if possible. Symptoms of altitude sickness can include headache, fatigue, nausea, and shortness of breath. Stay well hydrated, avoid alcohol the night before trail days if you are sensitive to altitude, and take it easy if you begin to feel the effects. Altitude affects people differently, so do not push through symptoms and do not hesitate to let the group know if you are not feeling well on the trail.

Cell Service and GPS

In the city and Denver metro: Cell service is excellent throughout the meeting area and surrounding suburbs

On the trails: Most trails have at least some cell coverage, though it may be intermittent in remote areas

GPS: GPS signal is rarely an issue on these trails. A GPS-capable device or mapping app is recommended for navigation

It is recommended to download offline maps for the areas you will be visiting in case cell service is unavailable on certain trail sections.

Trail Maps and Navigation

Maps are not required for this event. The event coordinator is well-informed with the trail systems in this area and will be leading the group. That said, having access to your own map is never a bad idea and can be useful for identifying points of interest, knowing what specific trail or section you are on, or navigating independently if you need to leave the group early for any reason.

onX Offroad

The best digital navigation option for these trails is onX Offroad. It offers detailed trail coverage of the Colorado mountain trail systems used at this event, with trail difficulty ratings, real-time GPS navigation, recent subscriber updates on trail conditions, and photo previews of trails submitted by other users. If you are familiar with using Google Maps for road navigation, onX Offroad works in a very similar way but is purpose-built for off-road use. It is available on available on both the App Store and Google Play Store.

A few things to note about onX Offroad:

  • A subscription is required to access full map features
  • Maps can be downloaded for offline use, which is strongly recommended given that cell service can be limited in some trail areas

On-Trail Communication

All participants are required to have a radio for communication during the event. The club uses FRS (Family Radio Service) frequencies as the standard for this event.

FRS radios are the standard for this event

Loaner radios may available for participants who do not have one - contact the coordinator in advance

You do not need a permanently installed radio in your vehicle, a handheld unit is acceptable

If you arrive without a radio, please notify the event coordinator so arrangements can be made

What to Bring

Food and Water

Pack a full lunch for each trail day - there are no food vendors or facilities on the trails

It is a good idea to bring extra food/snacks than needed if the day runs longer than expected

Bring plenty of drinking water - hydration is especially important at high altitude

Bring additional snacks for energy throughout the day

Clothing and Gear

Dress in layers - Colorado mountain weather changes quickly even in July

Bring a hat and sunscreen - UV exposure increases significantly at elevation

Wear or bring comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots for trail hikes

Rain gear is recommended - afternoon thunderstorms are common in the Colorado mountains during summer

Vehicle Preparation

Arrive each morning with a full tank of fuel -- do not count on fuel stops during the day

Ensure your vehicle is in good mechanical condition before the event

Bring basic tools and spare parts as you see fit

Be aware that many trails exceed 11,000 feet in elevation, which can affect vehicle performance

EV Charging for Hummer EV Owners

The Denver / Littleton metro area is well-equipped for EV owners, with both Level 2 and Level 3 DC fast charging options available in abundance throughout the area. Finding adequate charging during your stay should not be a challenge, and most major charging networks are well represented in this part of the Denver metro.

Overnight Charging Near the Meeting Point

The closest hotel to the meeting point that has an on-site EV charger is the Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Denver Southwest/Littleton (3 miles from Southwest Plaza). The hotel has two J1772 Level 2 chargers that span four parking spaces and are intended for hotel guests.

A few things to note about this charger:

  • It is a private charger for hotel guests and is not listed on Google Maps or public charging network apps
  • Non-EV vehicles are permitted to park in the EV spaces, so the chargers are not guaranteed to be available at all times
  • It is recommended to contact the hotel in advance if you are planning to rely on this charger during your stay

On the Trails – Nearby Charing

Some of the mountain towns near certain trailheads have EV chargers available, however access cannot be guaranteed. Trail selection is finalized by the event coordinator in the weeks before the event, so whether charging is conveniently accessible on any given day will depend entirely on which trails are chosen.

It is strongly recommended that you start each trail day with a high battery charge level. Managing your vehicle's charging needs throughout the event is the responsibility of the individual owner.

Mechanical Support – Mod Mafia

The Hummer Club is pleased to have Mod Mafia on hand as the Official Mechanical Support Partner for this event. Based out of Magnolia, Texas, Mod Mafia is well-regarded Hummer H1 and HMMWV specialist shop. Engineer-owned and operated, the shop brings a rare combination of formal engineering backgrounds and real-world trail experience to everything they do. Mod Mafia has been an official club partner since 2020.

When Mod Mafia attends an event, they arrive with their own tools and spare parts and are available to assist Humer club members if they experience a mechanical issue or vehicle related problem during the event.

If you want to get your truck squared away before the event, you can reach Mod Mafia at modmafia.com or 1-844-416-2342.

Mod Mafia's attendance is based on availability and is not guaranteed at every club event.
